Rare, first edition, hardcover, in very good condition. An account of the History of the Colony of Natal, South Africa by the Rev William C. Holden to which is added, an appendix, containing a brief history of the Orange-River sovereignty and of the various races inhabiting it, the great lake N'Gami, commandoes of the Dutch Boers. The book is complete with four maps (one is a sketch of the Sovereignty beyond the Orange River), and illustrations. Externally, bound in the original brown decorative embossed cloth. The spine is lettered in gilt and the binding is tight. Internally there is a signature and date on the inside cover. The title page shows some minor foxing and some colour transposed from the opposite engraving. Internally the book pages are remarkably clean and bright for a book of this age. This is a very rare book and a very good copy which will appeal to collectors. Please see photos provided as these serve to reflect the condition in conjunction with details provided.
