First edition, hardcover with dustjacket, inscribed and signed by the author, in very good condition. The book is about the life and work of George Cato, the first mayor of Durban and provides details on the history of early Natal and Durban, and its people and their way of life. Externally, the book has the original unclipped dustjacket over the publisher’s original blue cloth covered boards with silver gilt titling stamped on the spine. The dustjacket has some rubbing to the front and back and some wear to the extremities. Binding is tight. Internally, pages are very lightly tanned but still clean.
