First edition, hardcover in good condition. Gordon Le Sueur, was one of Cecil John Rhodes private and confidential secretaries and this is a personal account in which he endeavours, as per the preface, to “convey an impression of the man and his work formed from what I knew of him and anecdotes I retail”. Cecil John Rhodes was an English mining magnate and politician. He served as Prime Minister of the Cape Colony and in his quest to expand the British Empire he created the British South Africa Company and founded the southern African Territory of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe and Zambia). Externally, publisher's original black/blue cloth covers. Gilt stamped signature of C. J. Rhodes on the front cover. On the spine the title, author, an elephant and publisher are gilt stamped. Some minor wear to the extremities with some small cracks to upper and lower spine ends. Front and back covers show some minor scratchings. The book binding is good but has a little bit of play. Internally, the inside covers show some cracking of the hinges. Pages are generally clean and bright with some minor foxing.
