First edition in very good condition. An interesting book on Africa in the nineteenth century. There are photographic plate portraits of Lord Kitchener, Lord Cromer, General Gordon and Cecil John Rhodes and a small foldout map of Africa near the front. Externally, publishers original reddish cloth covered boards with gilt titles to spine and front. Boards have some wear to the extremities. Slight bumping and minor fraying to upper corners of the covers. Spine ends are moderately crushed and rubbed, with some minor fraying at both ends. Binding is tight. Internally, there is a paste down award on the front-end cover. Front and backend papers are tanned and back-end cover shows minor cracking of the hinge. Pages are generally clean with some minor foxing to outer edges on some.Please see photos provided as these serve to reflect the condition in conjunction with details provided.
